Meet Mr. Nico

2nd Grade Teacher

Hi all! I'm Mr. Nico, nice to meet you.

A little about myself: I was born in upstate New York and was raised between DeLand and there. I began my adult life in the US Army and that part of my journey brought me to Korea and Iraq. I've always had an interest in studying and engaging with the world's cultures. And with Stetson University, my alma mater, I was able to study in Germany and visit various European countries as an academic. And when I got back to the US, my passport called to me. So eventually I wound up in China and Japan. In both countries I took up being a teacher. My focus has since been on teaching and introducing the world's cultures to my students. I spent eight years in Japan and during that time I excelled at the Graduate School of Global Studies at Doshisha University, Kyoto. There I studied under a renowned professor of peace education. My personal interests and hobbies are broad, but they all relate to the humanities and relating to my students. Since being with Discovery Academy I have looked forward to spending each day in the classroom and engaging with young minds.
